What you need to know about Lakes ‘n’ Knödel?

Must have ingredients for Lakes ‘n’ Knödel?

  1. Dates

    Briefing & Accreditation: 02. August 2024

    Racestart: 03. August 2024 - 08:30am

  2. Location

    Start: Fuschl am See

    Finish: Bregenz, Lake Constance

  3. What’s Lakes ‘n’ Knödel?

Lakes ‘n’ Knödel is a new gravel bike event in the german-speaking alps, connecting the beauty between Salzburg and Bregenz. The route will bring the participants to remote huts, using logging roads, forest paths and trails. The rural paths and easier terrain beside some hike-a-bike sections is the key for rookies, who’d like to go for their premier ultra bikepacking event.

  4. What’s the format?

The track which will be provided is a set route with three to four Checkpoints. So all participants have to follow the given Route and in case of unexpected incidents (woodworks, road closings, etc.) you can leave the track, but have to return to the track via the shortest possible way.

  5. What defines unsupported?

Unsupported entails, that you are “on your own”. Help and support can be used, once it’s equally available to everyone. For example with a mechanical issue, no other participant should help you. Go for the nearest bikeshop, fix it and get back on track. Bring your tools and spare parts, which can be necessary. Likewise pre booking of accommodation for your trip, prior to the start, is prohibited. Due to restrictions regarding bivvying/camping in Austria, you won’t be as free as possible, as you have to plan your nights on Austrian soil. But we will help you a little. Details at §8.

  6. Categories?

Traditionally there are two categories. Lakes ‘n’ Knödel is about cycling, community and culinary art. A traditional dish called “Knödel Tris/Trio” leads us to a third category. Riding as a triplet and enjoying the adventure with another.

  7. Drafting?

We will have first finishers, but we’d like to open the doors for rookies and if drafting is supportive to some, that’s ok to us. We’d like to promote a community ride, get together with likeminded, chat and have a good time. So it's on you to ride side by side and enjoy nature along the course. If you prefer not to talk and look onto each others buttocks, feel free to do so.

  8. Food, Beverage and Accommodations?

Lakes ‘n’ Knödel will lead you along several mountain huts, with the opportunity to drink, eat and lots of times also sleep (pre booking, once you started, is adviced). You will have to plan your adventure in advance, but there are plenty opportunities to resupply, either with fountains, huts or little villages. For the huts we will provide a contact list, short before the event.
Likewise we’d like to give you an insight of what’s the rule for sleeping/camping along the track. To make it easy, we put up this easy to “remember rules”.

Camping in Austria: Camping in the parts we are crossing is prohibited. That includes the opportunity to bivvy.

Camping in Bavaria: Its permitted to rest and sleep outside, unless you are not putting up a tent.

  9. Checkpoints

After a neutral start, we will have three Checkpoints, which will part the track in 4 sections. The second Checkpoint will be around half way point.
    What is their specialty?
All will feature members of our team, serving you a Knödel (free of charge), if you’d like. Likewise, we will reserve a certain amount of beds in a dorm, so participants who’d like to have a break/sleep/rest, can recover (Expenses are incurred.).

  10. Do I get details about the GPX Track?

We will finalize the entire track until the event week and it’s part of the game to keep some surprising loops until the event. We will let you know some interesting locations along the route. Lean back and look forward to a surprising premier of Lakes ‘n’ Knödel.

  11. Setup?

For the bike we recommend at least 40mm wide gravel tires and a gear transmission ratio of 40x44. Front- and backlights as well as a spare set of lights. A reflective vest for night rides.
